The key requirements of the COSHH Regulations are met by carrying out a COSHH assessment and each requirement has a corresponding step in the assessment. When  carried out systematically, the steps ensure that an employer complies with the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) Regulations.

The Eight Key Steps in a COSHH Assessment

Step 1
Gather Information - Identify the risks
Step 2
Decide what precautions are needed
Step 3
Prevent or adequately control exposure
Step 4
Ensure that control measures are used and maintained
Step 5
Monitor the exposure
Step 6
Carry out appropriate health surveillance
Step 7
Preparation of plans and procedures to deal with accidents, incidents and emergencies
Step 8
Ensure employees are properly informed, trained and supervised

After completing the COSHH assessment, you then need to plan for a periodic review.
